HINDU WEDDING – VIDHI CEREMONY – PHOTOGRAPHY
PURVI’S VIDHI CEREMONY IN LONDON
Purvi’s Vidhi was a couple of days before her Indian wedding to Stephen at the Hive, London. The vidhi is a set of ceremonies that take place before the wedding. Pithi ceremony, in particular, indicates that the girl has entered into adulthood and is ready for the marriage. Purvi’s family chose to have this event at the Dharma Bhakti Manor in Stanmore.
At the start, The women of the household wait for their turn to apply the Pithi on Purvi’s skin. Pithi is a yellow paste made mainly of turmeric, chickpea flour and rose water. They apply this paste to cleanse the bride before the wedding day. Also, It is thought to brighten and soften the skin for a healthy glow.
Although only covering three hours of the event, I quickly understood how important this ceremony was for Purvi’s family. With tears and Joy right from the start. Overall it was an emotion-filled day with bright colours and family togetherness, usually the thing you expect in an Indian wedding. All these elements were present in the Hindu wedding two days later also.
I look forward to sharing Purvi and Stephen’s weekend Hindhu wedding and also their church wedding in Leicester. Below is a slideshow which shows the love between Purvi and her family.
