Preparing For Your Shoot

Relaxed, natural photographs without awkward posing.

PREPARING FOR YOUR ENGAGEMENT SHOOT

One of the things I enjoy most about working with couples before the wedding day is helping them feel comfortable in front of the camera. Preparing for your engagement shoot should feel relaxed, natural, and enjoyable rather than stressful or heavily posed.

These sessions are relaxed, easy-going, and a great chance for us to get to know each other before the wedding. There’s no pressure to perform or pose perfectly — the goal is simply to create natural photographs that feel like you.

When Should We Schedule The Shoot?

Most couple sessions take place on weekday evenings when the light is softer and quieter locations are easier to find.

I usually recommend planning your shoot around 2–3 months before the wedding, especially if you’d like to use the images for invitations, wedding websites, or save-the-dates.

What To Wear For Your Engagement Shoot

Wear something that feels comfortable and natural to you.

Neutral tones, soft colours, and simple outfits tend to photograph best without distracting from the moment. I normally suggest bringing no more than one or two outfits so we can spend more time enjoying the shoot rather than changing clothes.

Most importantly — wear something you feel confident in.

Choosing A Location For Your Engagement Shoot

If you don’t already have a location in mind, I’m always happy to suggest places that suit the atmosphere you want.

I usually recommend somewhere relaxed with a variety of scenery nearby so we can move naturally through the session without rushing from place to place.

What To Expect

You don’t need modelling experience or perfect poses.

I’ll give gentle direction where needed, but most of the session is simply about spending time together, walking, talking, and getting comfortable while I document things naturally as they unfold.

The best photographs usually happen in between the poses anyway.

Preparing for your engagement shoot is also a great opportunity for us to build trust before the wedding day.
