Preparing for your Engagement Shoot | Engagement Shoot Tips
Preparing for your couple Shoot
One of the things I love most about my work is getting to know my couples before the wedding ceremony. And Engagement sessions are the perfect way to do just that! Below are a few tips on how to prepare for your engagement shoot.
When to Schedule Your Engagement Shoot?
My Engagement session lasts 90minutes typically and are likely to be on a weekday and in the evening. The best light for the best results is two hours before sunset. However, I’m always up for shooting any time of day.
Scheduling the date for the shoot will depend on how you want to use the photos. My average edit time for engagement photos is 2weeks. I would recommend planning your session 2-3months before your wedding date for save the date purposes.
What to Wear? What to Bring?
When choosing your outfit for your engagement shoot, look for clothes that are soft and muted in color or something that will help you stand out from the background.
It’s nice to have a couple of outfits for the shoot, but I recommend no more than two to save time. If you want to bring more, that’s fine too.
Avoid clothing that shows tags, visible straps, or is see-through and could reveal undergarments.
During the shoot– aim to carry only the essentials. If possible, leave purses, bags, mobile phones, etc., in your car.
Remember – confidence is vital in photographs. Your clothing should make you feel comfortable, complement your physical features, and make you feel amazing.
Finally, you can bring your pet dog! I suggest having someone else come along to help to look after them.
Where Should You Have Your Engagement Photo Shoot?
If you don’t have a specific location in mind, I am always on hand to recommend somewhere. I encourage my couples to think of any location that is special to them. Generally, we are looking for a place that has several different scenes close together, so we aren’t spending too much time traveling from one place to another. Just remember not all places will allow photo shoots on their grounds, and it’s best to avoid crowded areas!
What to Expect During the Engagement Session?
During the wedding, I do less posing (Only during couple portraits). However, for the engagement session, don’t worry about posing. You will quickly learn my basic posing, and you won’t be left wondering how to stand or what to do with your hands.
Do you have personal concerns? As your Leicester engagement photographer, I have tips and tricks to take the focus away from any worries and to highlight your best attributes, so you can have fun during the shoot.
