Preparing for your engagement shootAdvice on how to prepare for a shoot

Preparing for your engagement shootPREPARING FOR YOUR ENGAGEMENT SHOOT

One of the things I love most about my work is getting to know my couples before the wedding ceremony. And engagement sessions are the perfect way to do just that! Below are a few tips on how to prepare for an Engagement session/Pre-wedding shoot.

WHEN TO SCHEDULE YOUR SESSION?

My Engagement session lasts 90minutes typically and are likely to be on a weekday and in the evening. The best light for the best results is two hours before sunset. However, I’m always up for shooting any time of day.

Scheduling the date for the shoot will depend on how you want to use the photos. My average edit time for engagement photos is 2weeks. I would recommend planning your session 4-5months before your wedding date for Save the date purposes.

WHAT TO WEAR? WHAT TO BRING?

When going through your closet or maybe even ordering something special for your engagement session outfit, look for clothes that are soft and muted in colour or go with something that will help you stand out from the background.

It would be nice to have a couple of outfits for the shoot, but I recommend no more than two outfits to save time for the actual shoot. If you want to bring more that’s fine also

Avoid– any clothing that may show tags, visible straps or see-through clothing that could reveal undergarments.

During the shoot– aim to only carry the minimum. If you can, leave purses, bags, mobile phones, etc. in your car.

Remember – confidence is vital in photographs. Your choice of clothing should make you feel comfortable, and it should compliment your physical features and make you feel amazing.

Finally, you can bring your pet dog! I suggest having someone else come along to help to look after them.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION?

Although during the wedding I don’t do any posing. I tell my couples not to worry about posing during the engagement session. You will quickly learn my basic posing, and you won’t be left wondering how to stand or what to do with your hands. I may make some slight adjustments here and there.
