PREPARING FOR YOUR ENGAGEMENT SHOOT

One of the things I love most about my work is getting to know my couples before the wedding ceremony. And Engagement sessions are the perfect way to do just that! Below are a few tips on how to prepare for an Engagement session/Pre-wedding shoot.

WHEN TO SCHEDULE YOUR ENGAGEMENT SHOOT?

My Engagement session lasts 90minutes typically and are likely to be on a weekday and in the evening. The best light for the best results is two hours before sunset. However, I’m always up for shooting any time of day.

Scheduling the date for the shoot will depend on how you want to use the photos. My average edit time for engagement photos is 2weeks. I would recommend planning your session 2-3months before your wedding date for save the date purposes.

WHAT TO WEAR? WHAT TO BRING?

When going through your closet or maybe even ordering something special for your engagement session outfit, look for clothes that are soft and muted in colour or go with something that will help you stand out from the background.

It would be nice to have a couple of outfits for the shoot, but I recommend no more than two outfits to save time for if you want to bring more that’s fine also.

Avoid– any clothing that may show tags, visible straps or see-through clothing that could reveal undergarments.

During the shoot– Aim only to carry the minimum. If you can, leave purses, bags, mobile phones, etc. in your car.

Remember – Confidence is vital in photographs. Your choice of clothing should make you feel comfortable, and it should compliment your physical features and make you feel amazing.

Finally, you can bring your pet dog! I suggest having someone else come along to help to look after them.

WHERE SHOULD YOU HAVE YOUR ENGAGEMENT PHOTO SHOOT?

If you don’t have a specific location in mind, I am always on hand to recommend somewhere. I usually encourage my couples to think of any location that is special to them. Generally, we are looking for a place that has several different scenes that are close together. So, we aren’t spending too much time travelling from one place to the other. Just remember not all places will allow photo shoots on their grounds and its best to avoid areas that are crowded!

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION?

Although during the wedding I do less posing (during couple portraits). I tell my couples not to worry about posing during the engagement session. You will quickly learn my basic posing, and you won’t be left wondering how to stand or what to do with your hands.

Do you have some personal concerns? As your Photographer I have tips and tricks, that I use to take the focus away from any worries and to focus on your best attributes. So, you can have fun during the shoot.
