Next up on the blog is this relaxed pre-wedding shoot at Rutland Water with Mitesh & Anna before their wedding celebrations later that year. Rutland Water is one of my favourite locations for engagement photography in the Midlands, especially for couples wanting natural photographs without awkward posing.
The open countryside, lakeside scenery, and peaceful atmosphere around Rutland Water make it the perfect location for relaxed documentary-style couple photography.
Relaxed Engagement Photography at Rutland Water
One of the reasons many couples book a pre-wedding shoot before their wedding day is because it helps everything feel more relaxed and natural in front of the camera. Rather than focusing on stiff poses, I always try to keep these sessions calm, easy-going, and focused on genuine interaction between couples.
Although we didn’t get the perfect golden sunset light during this session, the softer overcast conditions actually worked beautifully for natural portraits around Rutland Water.
Mitesh & Anna were completely relaxed from the beginning, which allowed moments to unfold naturally throughout the shoot. The combination of open countryside, quiet surroundings, and genuine connection between them made this one of my favourite engagement sessions from that summer.

Pre-wedding shoots are also a great opportunity for couples to become comfortable being photographed before the wedding day itself. By the time the wedding arrives, most couples already feel far more relaxed, which helps create natural wedding photographs throughout the celebrations.
One of the things I enjoy most about pre-wedding photography at Rutland Water is how relaxed the environment feels compared to a busy wedding day. Couples have time to slow down, enjoy the experience together, and simply focus on being themselves without any pressure. That relaxed atmosphere always helps create more genuine photographs and natural interactions throughout the session.
