Light is unquestionably instrumental in photography. As a photographer, I love to put my clients in the best light during my portrait sessions. And the best time for that happens to be… that’s right, early in the morning! While waking up super early for a sunrise might not sound very exciting at first, I have to say it is worth the effort.

In photography, the “golden hour”, sometimes also referred to as the “magic hour”, is a short period after sunrise or just before sunset, when the sun is still low above the horizon, producing soft golden light and long shadows. A Sunset should equally be amazing but to avoid the crowds of tourists in Barcelona, we opted for a sunrise shoot.

Alina is a pro wedding photographer herself, who made this session an easy one for me. All I had to do was focus on my composition and leave the posing with Alina.

As well as wedding photography I also offer environmental portrait photography. These are relaxed photography sessions where I apply my wedding photography style for portraits. I am happy to do these shoots anywhere in the Midlands or travel further afield anywhere in the Uk. Finally, here is a sample of such shoots with Gosia & Matt.

Having done plenty of shoots in Various parks and venues in Nottingham but none in the city centre, So I was keen to do this session in the centre. Gosia & Matt are a lovely couple who were very eager and willing to try anything unusual for artistic poses. We started the session with Gosia & Matt outside the Nottingham contemporary art museum, and we chased the light and the sunset around the city looking for the best views and beautiful spots in the city.

A lovely session from the Montjuïc Cacti Park in Barcelona with Sergi & Carolina. I am not a fan of big cities, but there is one exception which is Barcelona. I photographed many couple sessions around the Midlands Coventry, Leicester, Birmingham etc. but there is always something special about Barcelona. Having done, plenty of beach and city shoots here I was looking for an unusual location for this session.

A friend of mine recommended me to take a look at Montjuic Cacti park. I was impressed straight away. Hidden in the mountains of Barcelona and with Views overlooking the Barcelona harbour, this location is a gem! But finding the way to the park was a mission using google maps. After a little getting lost and some help from the locals, I got there eventually. I must admit climbing to the exact location of the cactus area is also a good cardio workout! Fantastic place for photos and well worth the effort!

I forgot to mention this place was full of mosquitos, and they liked my blood too much!! Overall a great session with the lovely couple Sergi & Carolina.

I shot the entire session with my beloved Leica M camera and a 50mm lens. So all it took was natural light, happiness and a lovely couple.

Hello, here is a sweet shoot with the friendly couple Adriana & Cat. An Engagement photography session in Abbey park Leicester.
Being in front of the camera for the first time, as a couple, would make anyone nervous, but these two didn’t have any such problems!
Adriana & Cat were so natural, relaxed and funny that it was an absolute pleasure to photograph them. Abbey Park is a decent location for photography if you don’t want to head out too far away from the city. We could only manage a stroll around the boating lake and the Chinese gardens before we lost the natural light. Overall a great session and I hope you like pictures – Ashok.

Another Engagement Photography blog! It’s been over ten months since my last blog here. I don’t think it matters what I write here but to say a few words about this pre-wedding shoot: this was shot somewhere in between Spain & Portugal. It was that long ago that I don’t even remember where exactly! But I do remember glorious sunset which is very obvious in the pictures below.

Also, I am happy to say that this couple Efra & Damaris are good friends of mine. Not only are they very photogenic and have great chemistry in front of the camera, but they are also lovely people. I hope you enjoy this Engagement Photography shoot. Adios Amigos!!

So how do you shoot a pre-wedding shoot on a crowded Barcelona beach?

Location:
Like any other photographer visiting Barcelona, I too was excited to take away something special from my visit to the city. Also, this was to be my first Wedding outside of the U.K. Therefore, this pre-wedding shoot with Ivan & Desi and even their wedding was a personal milestone. So in September 2016 before I left home, I packed my two Nikon D750s and most of my lenses with me (which I now regret as it got too heavy). I can’t exactly remember why we chose the Barcelona beach as a location, but then again, why not? We wanted to capture the sunrise and avoid the crowds that flock to the beach. So 6.30 am seemed like a good idea to start the shoot, and we finished the shoot before 8.30am, just in time for breakfast.

The couple:
Ivan and Desi both in their early 20’s, a couple madly in love! Like most couples I work with, Ivan & Desi have never done a photoshoot together. Being in front of the camera wasn’t something that they were comfortable with, but soon they realised it was all fun and they were happy just being themselves (this made a massive difference on their wedding day).

The Wedding:
It was a small, intimate and modest wedding that pulled on my heartstrings.
