SANGEET | INDIAN WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
What is a Sangeet Night at an Indian Wedding?
The word “Sangeet” means music. In an Indian wedding, it means a musical party or music night. The Sangeet Ceremony is one of the most fun and exciting events before the wedding. Traditionally, only women on the bride’s side attended the Sangeet. The purpose was to help everyone relax from the stress of wedding planning with singing, dancing, and music.
Today, almost every wedding has a Sangeet night. Both the bride’s and groom’s families perform traditional, folk, or Bollywood songs. The bride’s family hosts this night and introduces all family members. Originally, this event was mainly in North Indian weddings. However, the Sangeet Ceremony is now popular in South Indian and Bengali weddings too.
What to Expect at a Sangeet?
At a Sangeet, you can look forward to dance shows, colorful and stylish outfits, and lots of fun. It’s where the parties really get started. You might think of it as a “family talent show” or a super exciting rehearsal dinner!
During the event, family and friends of the bride and groom perform dances. These dances are often well-practiced and look great. Also, professional singers usually sing favorite movie songs and traditional wedding songs. This important event before the wedding mixes music and dance.
After the performances, there’s a big dinner with lots of food. This makes sure everyone has a festive and memorable evening.
