Joe & Abbi’s Mythe Barn wedding photography story was filled with genuine moments, emotional reactions, and one of the most relaxed atmospheres you could ask for throughout a wedding day.
I first spoke to Joe around a year before the wedding. After a quick conversation about photography and the style they were looking for, he simply said: “We love your work… how do we book?” It’s always a great feeling when couples instantly connect with your approach.
The morning started with rain drifting across the countryside, but just before the ceremony the skies cleared and the whole venue opened up with beautiful soft light. By the evening, the day ended with one of those incredible warm sunsets that feels perfect for a countryside barn wedding.
What stood out most throughout the day wasn’t just the setting or the light — it was the people around them. Joe & Abbi were surrounded by genuinely warm families and close friends, and the entire wedding had such an easy, welcoming atmosphere from start to finish.
A RELAXED COUNTRYSIDE WEDDING
The surrounding countryside, soft natural light, and modern barn interiors all helped create the perfect setting for a documentary approach to photographing the celebrations naturally.
As a documentary wedding photographer, those are always the moments I’m drawn to most — the real interactions, the laughter during speeches, emotional hugs, chaotic dance floor moments, and everything in between.
Rather than spending large portions of the day away from their guests taking photographs, Joe & Abbi stayed fully present throughout the celebrations, which always leads to more natural and meaningful images.
One of my favourite parts of the day was watching how relaxed everyone felt around them. Nothing ever felt forced or overly staged. The entire wedding flowed naturally from start to finish, allowing genuine moments to happen throughout the day without interruption.
