Emily and Aaron’s Ingatestone Hall wedding photography perfectly captured everything I love about relaxed documentary weddings. From the emotional moments at All Saints Church in Writtle to the natural couple portraits at Ingatestone Hall, the entire day felt elegant, personal, and completely centred around genuine moments.

One of my favourite parts of the day was how naturally everything flowed. Nothing felt rushed or overly staged. From the emotional moments with family before the ceremony to the relaxed atmosphere during the drinks reception at Ingatestone Hall, the focus was always on enjoying the day together.

As a documentary wedding photographer, these are always the weddings I love photographing most.

RELAXED CHURCH WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY AT ALL SAINTS CHURCH, WRITTLE

The day began at Emily’s family home in Writtle where final preparations were taking place before the short walk to All Saints Church. Rather than focusing heavily on getting ready photographs, the morning was centred around quiet family moments, including an emotional first look with Emily’s father before the ceremony.

All Saints Church provided the perfect setting for a traditional English wedding ceremony. The atmosphere felt intimate and calm, with beautiful natural light throughout the church and plenty of genuine reactions during the vows.

After the ceremony, guests gathered outside the church and around the village green for hugs, congratulations, and relaxed family photographs before travelling to Ingatestone Hall.

NATURAL COUPLE PORTRAITS AT INGATESTONE HALL

Ingatestone Hall is an incredible venue for documentary wedding photography. The grounds are elegant without feeling overly formal, allowing couples to enjoy their day naturally while still creating timeless portraits.

Emily and Aaron wanted their portraits to feel relaxed and natural, so we kept things simple by walking through the cedar and lime walk areas of the grounds while allowing moments to happen naturally.

The soft autumn light and the atmosphere of the venue created the perfect backdrop for a mixture of documentary portraits and a few timeless black and white photographs.

DOCUMENTARY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY AT INGATESTONE HALL

One of the things I loved most about this wedding was how much the day focused on people and atmosphere rather than strict timelines or posed moments.

From emotional reactions during the ceremony to laughter during the drinks reception and speeches later in the evening, the entire wedding had a very relaxed energy throughout.

These are always the moments I look for when photographing weddings naturally — the interactions that happen between the planned parts of the day.
